Three persons have lost their lives and scores injured, following heavy rainfall that rocked several communities in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State.

The rainstorm, which occurred between Saturday night and early hours of Sunday morning, also led to the collapse of several houses, with the rooftops of many blown off in the process.

It was learnt that two of the deceased were women and one of them married a few weeks ago and had just moved into her husband’s house.

A staff of the Information Unit of the council area, Surajo Zabo, also lost his wife to the incident; she was buried according to Islamic rites Sunday morning.

Both Sulieman Ibrahim and Abdulkarim Sani, information officers I and II respectively of the council area, confirmed the incident.

Sani said the rainstorm began on Saturday and continued on Sunday morning, while several communities within and outside Kankara town were affected.

He said that two people died in Matsiga community, while another person lost his life at Nasarawa community, but that details of the destruction and communities affected were being collated as at Sunday morning.

“Several houses were affected as many of them were mud houses. They collapsed during the heavy rain. Three people lost their lives with several injured.

“We are still trying to get details of the number of people, houses and communities affected. The rainstorm is something one only heard about as I’ve not experienced something like this before,” he added.
