Kwara State has been distinguished as the best Nigerian state in counterpart funding payment under the Roads Asset Management Programme (RAAMP), a prestigious accolade announced on Monday in Abuja during the 8th RAAMP implementation support mission. The evaluation, which assessed the progress of all participating states as part of the preparations for the new year, recognised Kwara’s exemplary performance in both counterpart payment and overall disbursement.

Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawiy Olododo, expressed his elation shortly after the announcement. “This is a big win for our state. It shows how committed His Excellency has been to the cause of equitable development. This award is a confirmation of his efforts to develop our state,” he remarked.

At the session, awards were presented across various categories. Kwara State emerged as the overall best in counterpart funding among the 19 participating states, meaning that no other state paid a higher share of the required counterpart funding. Furthermore, Kwara also clinched the award for overall disbursement, outstripping all other states in its category. This accolade signifies that, among the 13 states in its category, Kwara drew more funds from the World Bank and the French Development Bank than any other.

The achievements are clearly reflected in ongoing construction works on approximately 209.77 kilometres of roads across the state, providing tangible evidence of Kwara’s commitment to infrastructural development. The dual recognition underscores the state’s efficient management and robust financial discipline in utilising development funds, further consolidating its reputation as a leader in public sector accountability and progress.
