The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has cautioned National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state that the NYSC uniform does not place them above the law or shield them from legal consequences.

Ojajuni issued the stern warning, yesterday while receiving the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Adewuyi Frances, and members of her management team on a strategic courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The aim of the visit was to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He added that it also sought to strengthen measures aimed at ensuring the safety and welfare of corps members serving across the 20 local council in the state.

While receiving the delegation, CP Ojajuni reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and property is a core responsibility of the Command and pledged that corps members would continue to enjoy robust security coverage and protection.

Addressing the corps members in attendance, the Commissioner of Police reflected on his own NYSC experience, encouraging them to make the most of their service year by developing strong character, cultivating discipline, and honing their leadership abilities.

He, however, warned them to steer clear of criminal activities and negative influences, emphasizing that the NYSC uniform does not shield anyone from prosecution if they are found to have committed an offence.

“Shun all forms of criminality and Illicit association. the NYSC uniform offers no immunity against criminal liability should an infraction be established against anyone and remain exemplary ambassadors of the NYSC.” Ojajuni said.

The police chief urged them to uphold the values of the scheme by serving as worthy representatives of their families, home states, and the nation throughout their service year and beyond.

Ojajuni introduced the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to the corps members as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s non-kinetic policing strategy.

He explained that the initiative is a community-based programme designed to steer young people away from cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices through value re-orientation.

In her response, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Frances, praised the Command for the exceptional care, guidance, and mentorship it has consistently provided to corps members serving in police formations.

She also lauded the Command’s proactive approach to maintaining security across the state.

The NYSC Coordinator reaffirmed the NYSC’s commitment to strengthening collaboration through intelligence sharing and encouraged the Command to sustain its efforts toward ensuring the continued safety and security of Ogun State.
