Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has charged the 18 new local council executives to throw in everything they have to serve Edo people.  Obaseki gave the charge during the swearing in of the council officials, including chairmen and councillors at the Government House, Benin City, the state capital.  The council excos were elected on Saturday, September 2, after a keenly contested local council election that was held across the state’s 18 councils, with the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) candidates clinching the chairmanship seats of the 18 councils, including those of the councillors.

The governor said he is glad with the quality of people his party has produced and who have now been elected to serve the people at the grassroots.

HOWEVER, the Edo chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has rejected the local council election.

The state Chairman of the party, Col. David Imuse (rtd), said the elections, organised by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), was a shocking display of fraudulence and deception, orchestrated by the state government at the expense of Edo tax payers.    He stressed the need for immediate intervention, accountability, and a thorough investigation into the conduct of EDSIEC and the state government.

MEANWHILE, the state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has said there is no iota of truth in the purported rumour that Obaseki ordered the relocation of his office.

Shaibu spoke shortly after casting his vote at Unit 5 polling unit at Azama Primary School, in Jattu, Etsako West Council of the state on Saturday.   Describing such claims as only existing on social media, Shaibu noted that he is yet to be officially communicated, adding that the speculation is the handiwork of detractors.
