Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, moved to make a law that will regulate large gatherings to prevent a repeat of stampedes in the state.
The move came during its sitting held at the chamber, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The mover of the motion, Hon. O. A. Babalola, representing Ibadan North East II State Constituency, noted that the tragic event last December at Islamic High School, where over twenty persons were reportedly killed, is a litmus test for the need for safety guidelines and precautions against large social gatherings in the state.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, called for the mover of the motion to investigate any existing or obsolete law guiding large gatherings for further consideration.
Meanwhile, the House unanimously adjourned its sitting to Tuesday, 18th February, this year.
