A civil society organisation (CSO), MonITNG, has revealed the deplorable condition in RCM Primary School Lom Ghe in Mbayom, Gwer East LGA, Benue State, where children sit on bare floors.
The CSO visited the school recently and made chilling discoveries about the school, which is the only school serving the residents of the community.
From its visit, MonITNG discovered that the previous structure collapsed years ago and has yet to be rebuilt, forcing children to learn in a hut in the absence of teaching materials.
“Despite the vast sums invested in the education sector in Benue State from 2020 to 2025, this is the only school serving the entire community and it has no building,” the CSO noted.
“The previous structure collapsed years ago, and since then, children have been forced to learn in a makeshift thatch hut, sitting on the bare ground with no desks, no walls, and no basic teaching materials.”
MonITNG added that the residents of the community, including parents and teachers, have appealed to the Benue State Government, written countless letters to the state government and had several dialogues with government officials regarding the school’s exploration.

Despite these, the school remains in ruins.
The CSO described this as a human development crisis which denies children the right to education and hampers the future of the children of the community, as children are pushed to work on farms, young girls are forced into early marriages, and others are sent to distant cities to work as domestic servants.

It also appealed to the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, to come to the aid of these children and rebuild the school.
“We are calling on the Benue State Government and Hyacinth Alia to take immediate and concrete steps to rebuild RCM Primary School Lom Gbache,” MonITNG appealed.
“The children of this community deserve a safe, functional school with solid infrastructure, classroom furniture, and qualified teachers. They have waited long enough. It’s time to act.”
