Police arrest four for kidnapping, murder in Rivers

Operatives of Rivers State Police Command have arrested four suspects involved in the kidnap and eventual murder of a commuter, identified as Onyekachi Obioma Chukwuagu, along East/West Road, Rumuodogo 1 Community in Emohua Local Council of the state.
 
Acting Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
 
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspects had on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, while pretending to be regular passengers, boarded the victim’s vehicle and while getting to a quiet place, kidnapped him and abandoned the vehicle by the roadside.

 
She explained that upon receipt of the complaint the command swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene, where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search resulting in the arrest of one of the suspects, who led operatives to the rest of the gang, and the location where the victim’s corpse was dumped.
 
She said: “The four suspects; Obichi Ngita, 20, Chisom Honest, 20, Young Chitu, 21 and Omens Woke, 23, on Tuesday, March 22, while pretending to be regular passengers, boarded the victim’s vehicle.
 
“When they got to a quiet point of the route, they kidnapped the victim and abandoned the vehicle marked GDD 250 MU by the roadside.
 
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the command swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene, where they cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search, resulting in the arrest of Chisom Honest, who led operatives to the rest of the gang, and the location of the victim’s corpse.”
   
The police spokesperson added that the suspects claimed they murdered the victim with a machete for refusing to cooperate with them, while stressing that efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects indicted in the matter.

MEANWHILE, the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, while condoling with the family of the deceased for the unfortunate loss, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.
