Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of six persons along the Kaduna—Abuja road on Sunday evening by gunmen in military uniform.

The Command said its officers engaged the criminals and rescued two of the six persons kidnapped.

In a statement by the police spokesman Yakubu Sabo the command received a distress call that armed men in military uniform intercepted a commercial bus with registration number ABJ 905 XC at a point near Rijana Village along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway and took away six persons into the bush.

He said patrol teams within the axis were quickly mobilised to the scene and engaged the hoodlums and rescued one 17-year-old Rofiat Tijjani another person both of Tudunwada Kaduna from the criminals who were about to escape. Both victims were taken to a police station.

Sabo stated that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining four victims and arrest the criminals and promised to update the public on the ongoing operation.

Meanwhile, Chairman Yoruba Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs in the 19 Northern states and Abuja, Ambassador Muhammad Arigbabuwo, has called for the release of the victims

The monarch made the plea while speaking with journalists in Kaduna. He appealed to their abductors to free them as they are people in search of means of survival.

He also asked the government to “improve the welfare packages of all security agents, especially those on the frontlines.”
