…over allegations against Senior Officer

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to due process and institutional accountability, stating that allegations against senior officers will be handled strictly within the confines of the law and established disciplinary procedures.

 

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police disclosed that social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to provide evidence in support of allegations he made publicly against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

 

According to the Force, the invitation was formally issued on July 30, 2026, as part of efforts to objectively assess the claims through its internal investigative process.

 

The Police also confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force CID has commenced an administrative review by inviting AIG Jimoh for questioning over the allegations.

 

Addressing the criminal case linked to the controversy, the Force explained that investigations have already been concluded and the matter has been filed before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). It stressed that, since the case is now before the court, it would not comment on issues that fall within the jurisdiction of the judiciary.

 

The statement emphasized that disciplinary actions within the Nigeria Police Force are guided by the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders and other administrative provisions, adding that no officer is exempt from these procedures regardless of rank.

 

While acknowledging Nigerians’ constitutional right to demand accountability and express their views, the Force cautioned against using unverified allegations or sustained public pressure to influence disciplinary decisions or judicial proceedings.

 

It maintained that officers found culpable after investigations would face appropriate sanctions in line with the law, while individuals found to have made false and malicious allegations could also face legal consequences.

 

The Police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the Force CID and cooperate with investigators, insisting that complaints against police personnel should be pursued through established complaint and oversight channels rather than through public campaigns.

 

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, transparency and justice, the Force said it remains resolute in ensuring that every complaint is fairly investigated while safeguarding the rights of all parties involved under the rule of law.
