The police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected armed robbers for allegedly using grounded pepper to snatch motorcycles, popularly known as okada from their victims.

The suspects, Olatunbosun Ogunleye and Titilope Fadimu, were also alleged to have raped some female students of ICT Polytechnic, Isara, Remo, Ogun State, after robbing them of their valuables. They were said to have stormed the hostels of the students, robbed them and thereafter raped them.

The suspects were among 14 other criminals paraded by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, yesterday at the police headquarters, Eleweran, in Abeokuta. The suspects’ crimes included car snatching, motorcycle snatching, arms robbery and cultism among others.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the method the suspects use in getting their victim is that they “will ask the bike rider to take them to a particular place but on the way, they will ask the rider to stop, giving one excuse or the other and as soon as the rider stops, they will spread pepper in the eyes of their victim and drive the motorcycle away.”

One of the suspects, Ogunleye told newsmen that: “We started to steal motorcycles because somebody stole my motorcycle. We are not rapists and we didn’t go and rape any student, we only steal motorcycles.”
