The President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise, Rotarian Ishaku Maigida, has reaffirmed the club’s commitment to humanitarian service by providing free healthcare and support to women, children and other vulnerable groups in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

 

The one-day maternal and child health outreach delivered essential healthcare services to scores of women, children and other residents of Yimitu Village in Waru District, Garki Chiefdom, Abuja, underscoring Rotary’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of underserved communities.

 

Speaking during the outreach, Maigida said the intervention reflected Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self”, noting that the initiative was specifically designed to address the immediate healthcare needs of vulnerable groups, particularly mothers and children.

 

As part of the programme, expectant mothers received delivery kits to support safe childbirth, while children were immunised against polio as part of efforts to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases.

 

Residents also benefited from free medical consultations conducted by doctors, health screening and testing for common ailments, eye examinations and the distribution of free medications to patients diagnosed with various health conditions. Routine health checks, including blood pressure, temperature and weight measurements, were also carried out.

 

Maigida said that the outreach was aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to rural communities that often have limited access to medical services.

 

He said: “The initiative not only addressed immediate health needs but also strengthened community wellbeing, particularly for vulnerable women and children.”

 

He added that the outreach underscores the Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise’s resolve to continue implementing people-centred projects that improve lives and promote healthier communities across the Federal Capital Territory.

 

According to him, the successful outreach marks another milestone in the club’s humanitarian efforts, stressing that “the journey has just begun” as the club remains committed to expanding its impact through sustainable community-based interventions.
