Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, has urged youths in the state not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for violence during elections.

Effiong gave the charge during an interactive session with youth leaders from 23 councils in the state concerning peaceful conduct of elections. The commissioner disclosed that as a build-up to the elections, youths should be mindful of actions that will throw the state into turmoil.

Okon said: “In less than 40 days, we shall be going into general elections. Youths constitute majority of those that will determine who governs Rivers State tomorrow. What you sow today is what you will reap.

“I want to charge all of you to be careful of the seed you sow. When you go to any political rally, 80 per cent of the people you will see are youths. I charge you all that in whatever you do, you must see possibility in the process.

“Do not be used as political mercenery. If your life is not important to you, definitely your life is useful to your parents and family.”
Reacting, Chairman, Rivers State Youth Leaders Coalition, Legborsi Yamaabana, said youths would ensure hitch-free election.

He said: “As youth leaders across the state, we have decided to support and collaborate with the police to ensure peaceful, progressive and crime-free Rivers State.”
