Sokoto records low turnout, peaceful polls

Yesterday’s Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections was generally peaceful, but witnessed poor turnout of voters, compared to the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Sokoto State.

But the state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, after voting at Tambuwal, said the turnout at his polling unit was impressive, adding that from reports, the exercise was generally peaceful, except for a few areas where there was tension.

Also speaking shortly after casting his vote at Wamakko, the Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, admonished the electorate to peacefully exercise their franchise and freely vote their choices.

Said he: “there is no need to cause any trouble, that will not take us anywhere. It will not do anybody any good. In politics, just like any other contest, there must be a winner and a loser. Hence, anybody, who loses should wait for the next four years to try his or her luck.”
