Terra Industries has secured $2 million in contracts to safeguard lithium mining operations in Nigeria, just one week after launching its new commercial division.
The deals involve two mining companies, with Terra deploying a fleet of 20 Sentry Towers and 4 Iroko drones across their sites for surveillance, real-time threat detection, and response—all powered by ArtemisOS, Terra’s autonomous command-and-control system.
Plans are underway to expand as operators bring additional sites online. Across Africa, mining, oil, and power operators manage critical assets in areas with limited security coverage and slow response times. Terra’s commercial division offers surveillance and deterrence solutions for these sites, utilising the same autonomous technology the company provides to defence clients.
Terra explained that its commercial division was created to offer surveillance and deterrence systems tailored for critical infrastructure operators, leveraging the same autonomous technology framework it delivers to defense clients.
“Terra’s commercial division builds surveillance and deterrence systems for those sites using the same autonomous stack the company supplies to defence customers,” it said.
The company stated that its systems are created to give operators enhanced visibility of their assets and to improve their capability to detect and react to security threats promptly.
This comes several months after the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency announced the discovery of high-grade lithium in Nigeria, attracting interest from foreign investors. Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba, the agency’s Director-General, spoke to journalists in Abuja.
He highlighted that lithium, a highly reactive metal vital for manufacturing energy-rich rechargeable batteries used in electronics like laptops, smartphones, electric vehicles, and grid storage, is drawing significant attention.
Garba said, “Nigeria’s lithium is hot cake now. The mineral was discovered in several parts of the country in the course of the National Integrated Mineral Exploration Project during exploration, and we did investigations and came up with analysis and discovered that Nigeria’s lithium is of high grade.
He added, “High grade in the sense that the standard worldwide for even exploration and mining starts from 0.4 per cent lithium oxide but when we started exploration and mining, we saw one per cent up to 13 per cent lithium oxide content.
“Another advantage of Nigerian lithium is that it is hard rock lithium, and that is what investors are looking out for worldwide. We even had discussions with some private companies with mining licences in Nigeria, and they conducted tests on the lithium, and we also collaborated with Canada on that too.”
