Terrorists kill 10, abduct residents in Katsina community

Suspected terrorists have killed at least 10 persons and abducted an unspecified number of people at Guga village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Among those abducted is the village head of the area, Mallam Umar, along with several women and children that tried to escape from the terrorists’ attack.

The incident which occurred late Monday morning into the early hours of Tuesday, also saw several houses looted and razed, animals rustled, with cars and motorcycles set on fire.

The terrorists were said to have stormed the village in their numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, and rode on motorcycles.

They were said to have shot sporadically to register their presence, then began moving from house to house, looting valuables and livestock.

They also abducted several people including women and children, as well as the village head.

The village head’s eldest son, Abdullahi confirmed the attack and the terrorists’ abduction of his father.

Abdullahi said when the terrorists attacked, he was in his room asleep as it was 1:00 am, and that they began shooting into the air to scare people away.

He said, that as he tried coming out of the house he met his father “also coming out going toward the village center where the shooting was coming from.

“But the bandits forced him back into the house, took some food items and left with him.”

He said that his father’s abductors were yet to contact family members.

The spokesperson for the police command in the state, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

Isah, however, did not give details of the incident.

Katsina State, the home of President Muhammadu Buhari, like most all in the northwest is facing pockets of security challenges due to the activities of terrorists, rustlers, and kidnappers.

Hundreds of people have been killed, maimed, or kidnapped in recent months in the state especially in council areas located close to the dreaded Rugu forest.
