Three die in Imo gas explosions

Three persons were killed and several others injured yesterday evening when some gas cylinders exploded at a fuel station located in Orji, Owerri North Local Council of Imo State.

Three persons were killed and several others injured yesterday evening when some gas cylinders exploded at a fuel station located in Orji, Owerri North Local Council of Imo State.

A bank close to the station was affected, causing customers to run helter-skelter.

An eyewitness said the attendants at the station were busy with their routine duties when the explosion occurred.

It was learnt that the bodies of the victims were decapitated, scattering on the floor. Rescuers conveyed the injured customers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Another eyewitness said: “This ugly incident occurred at about 5pm today. Three persons working at the station were killed while others were injured. It was a case of gas explosion. Some gas cylinders at the station exploded. Even the window glasses of the bank nearby were affected. Nobody can say how it started for now.’’
