President Bola Tinubu will return to Abuja this evening after a six-day stay in Lagos, where he marked Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary and participated in a series of engagements.

The President arrived in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, following an extended working vacation in Europe, during which he spent time in London and Paris.

His return to Lagos, the nation’s former capital and his political stronghold, came as the administration entered a critical phase of preparations for the 2027 General Elections, with the President expected to intensify engagements on the implementation of his Renewed Hope Agenda and the country’s economic and political priorities.

On October 1, Tinubu addressed Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast to commemorate the 66th anniversary of independence, highlighting the administration’s reform programme and its efforts to move the country from economic stabilisation to greater prosperity.

The President later attended the national premiere of MKO, a documentary on the life, political struggle and enduring legacy of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola and the June 12 pro-democracy struggle.

Tinubu’s return to Abuja is expected to mark a resumption of his full schedule at the Presidential Villa, with attention likely to shift to the implementation of ongoing reforms, economic management, security and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The President’s Lagos engagements also come against the backdrop of renewed political activity ahead of 2027, as parties and political blocs intensify mobilisation and public messaging.

Tinubu is seeking re-election in 2027, while opposition parties and emerging political alliances are positioning themselves for a contest that is already generating intense political debate across the country.

The Presidency, however, has consistently argued that the administration’s immediate priority remains delivering on its economic and development agenda, insisting that the benefits of ongoing reforms must translate into improved living conditions and greater opportunities for Nigerians.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu would depart Lagos for Abuja this evening.
