Police Parade Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Arm

It was a black Friday yesterday, as four vehicles collided on the Ojota-Maryland link bridge, at Odo Ita lya Alaro, Lagos.

The incident led to the death of two persons, a male and a female.

The incident occurred when a commercial bus with six passengers on board coming from Mile 12 collided with a gasoline tanker with registration number FKJ-506XM and a Toyota Camry.

Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) took one of the bodies to the morgue while the other body simply identified as Blessing has her family members on the ground to take the body away.

It was said that a tipper with registration number T-12015LA laden with 30tons of sharp sand hit a grey coloured Toyota Camry with registration number Abuja ABC-261AJ, from the rear and the sand spilt on the Camry, leading to a traffic logjam.

Aside from the two fatalities, few others were said to have escaped with minor injuries.

The South-West Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said the tipper truck lost control while at high speed and ran into the vehicles, thereby resulting in multiple accidents.

In his words: “Unfortunately, two adults (one female and one male) were confirmed dead at the scene. The body of a male adult was handed over to SEHMU at the scene, while that of the female was taken by her immediate family.

“Several others persons were also injured and taken to nearby hospitals in Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) ambulance. LASAMBUS, LASEMA, NEMA, LASTMA, FRSC, LASAMBUS and Nigeria Police participated in the response,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command has paraded suspected armed robbers and recovered arms and ammunition.

The seven-armed robbery/murder suspects who were paraded with stolen items were arrested on April 22, 2022.

They recovered a silver-coloured Sienna bus with registration number LSR 509 HB, a locally made double barrel pistol, one machete, one knife, two screwdrivers, twelve mobile phones, one access bank ATM card with the name Newton Newman, some substances suspected to be Indian hemp and one dead snail and four live cartridges at Mojirade Street, Shibiri, Lagos.

According to the State’s Police Spokesman, the prompt arrest of the suspects followed a tip-off from Lagosians to the Divisional Police Officer of Ilemba Hausa Division who led his men to the criminal hideout where seven members of the gang were arrested while others fled.

The suspects include Esther Newman, Joel Anaba, Ruben Ude, Chinedu Emenike, Abuchi Peter, Chima Simon and James John.

The suspects are also being investigated for the murder of one Sergent Edison Fulman attached to Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos on April 14, 2022.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi has directed that the suspects and exhibits be transferred to the Command Headquarters for further investigation and arrest of other members of the gang.
