Youth empowerment catalyst for national development, says Malami
Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has said that empowerment of youths boosts national development.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, the minister said the Federal Government introduced youth-oriented empowerment initiatives through various schemes to utilise their potential.
He cited the N-Power programme, employment opportunities to 774,000 Nigerian youths, community policing and special loan for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Malami reportedly made the remarks in Birnin-Kebbi as part of outreach engagement to community leaders and youth in his home state of Kebbi when he kicked off of a novelty football match between Azbir Arena of Kebbi State and Scorpion Arena of Katsina State.
“The minister commended the organisers of the match, which he said would go a long way in fostering unity among Nigerians. He encouraged them to always engage themselves in meaningful activities for national development,” Gwandu said.
Urging the youth to continue to be law-abiding and of good conduct expected of responsible citizens in the pursuit of their ambition, Malami warned them not to allow themselves to be distracted by miscreants when ventilating grievances to constituted authorities.
He called also on the youth to remain calm as the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was working hard on programmes and policies that will give them sense of belonging.
Briefing newsmen at the weekend shortly after a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Yauri Council, Kebbi, he said Buhari had promised to deliver dividends of democracy to the electorate.
Malami, who organised the meeting, added: “Buhari is thanking you for remaining law-abiding citizens during the #EndSARS protests.”
Responding, The Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi, thanked the minister for the visit and expressed appreciation over the rehabilitation of Kontagora/Yauri/Koko road by the Buhari administration.
