Over 1500 indigent people in Ikoyi Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, yesterday, benefited  from the 15th Olusegun Idowu Initiative programme, tagged :” Olusegun Cares.”

The yearly programme was an initiative of the philanthropist and grassroots politician, to care for the needy and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

During the event,  over 1,500 bags of rice, 1,000 bags of Garri and  500 chickens were distributed to the physically challenged, widows, elderly and vulnerable people in the council area to make people happy for Christmas.

Speaking at the event, Hon Idowu said it is important to care for the needy and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged, noting that there is a need to alleviate poverty from the community.

According to him, the Olusegun Idowu Initiative started 15 years ago to give to those who are in need irrespective of their faiths, tribes, and political affiliation.

He stressed that the initiative emanated from an elderly person, who reached out to him for money to buy Christmas chicken.

but he felt it should be extended as there are so many people who will want to have such but couldn’t because they don’t have the means. He explained that the whole essence was to alleviate poverty in the community and support  people in need .

Idowu commended the effort of Hon Olawale Edu, a close associate of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and thanked them for their support and the entire people of the Ikoyi-Obalende community for coming enmass to grace the occasion.

Commenting, Hon Wale Edu, commended the philanthropist for reaching out to the less privileged in a time of festivity when people’s pockets are quite short.

He said: “At this time of the pandemic, when things go short when people are in need, give directly to their basic needs, that is what Hon Olusegun Idown is doing today. It is highly commendable, adorable and he should encourage it because he has been doing it in the last 15 years even before anything like a pandemic was known.”

He commended the donor for being  a very good party man and  community leader, who leads by example, who never held a public office, but yet reached out to his community in the last 15 years to reduce  poverty amongst  people of  Ikoyi-Obalende  LCDA.
