To support government’s drive to reduce the number of out-of-school children, a Corps Member,  Miss Shamsiya Lukman, has taken the bold step of enrolling 11 children in Samaru Primary School, Gusau Local Government Area, as part of her personal Community Development Service (CDS) project.

To support the children, she provided them with school uniforms, socks, sandals, school bags, and writing materials to help them begin their education.

Before enrolling the children in school, Miss Shamsiya had earlier trained them in leatherwork and other vocational skills to equip them with useful skills for self-reliance.

Speaking during their formal registration at the school premises, Corps Member Shamsiya Lukman said she was inspired to carry out the project to complement various initiatives by the State and federal governments’ in reducing the high number of out-of-school children.

She advised the pupils to make good use of the opportunity and listen to their teachers, adding that primary school is the foundation of their educational journey.

A representative of the school, Mrs. Kafayat Abdulazeez encouraged the children to be hardworking, obedient, and take their studies seriously by always coming to school.

She asked the students to feel free to ask questions when they don’t understand and meet any of them for guidance.

The school representative also praised Miss Shamsiya  for her thoughtful initiative, describing it as a significant contribution to her host community.

In his remarks, the guardian of the children and Islamic teacher, Mallam Babangida Samaru thanked the Corps member for her support and concern for the children’s future.

He said the children, who are also receiving Islamic education at his Almajiri school, would be guided to take their studies seriously.

Mallam Samaru  also thanked the corps member for training the children on skills acquisition and prayed for God’s blessings upon her  and for success in the children’s studies.
