The Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission, in collaboration with Zam Builders Ltd, has conducted a three-day training workshop for 42 sectional heads on civil, mechanical engineering, and land officers on building environment across the fourteen local government areas of the State.

The training workshop, themed “Application of the 1978 Land Use Act, Building Code and Other Related Matters in the Built Environment,” was aimed at highlighting that the Land Use Act remains the principal legislation governing land Administration in Nigeria, while building codes and related regulations provide the framework for safe, orderly, and sustainable physical development.

Declaring the workshop open at a ceremony held at the Commission’s multipurpose hall in Gusau, the State Capital, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Aminu Aliyu Mafara, who was represented by the Permanent Commissioner 1, Hon. Bello Tudu Gummi, said a sound understanding and effective application of these legal and technical instruments are essential for
reducing land disputes, preventing building failures, improving project implementation, and ensuring compliance with planning standards.

He further stated that the workshop reflects the Commission’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of local government technical officers to effectively discharge their responsibilities in accordance with established laws, regulations, and professional standards.

“As custodians of physical infrastructure, land Administration, and Engineering Services at the grassroots, your roles are indispensable in promoting orderly development, ensuring public safety, and supporting sustainable socioeconomic growth,” Mafara declared.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the Commission, Brr. Shafi’u Bukhari said that the workshop was carefully designed to enhance understanding of the provisions of the 1978 Land Use Act, the Building Code, and other relevant laws and regulations governing the built environment.

“These legal and professional frameworks are fundamental to effective land administration, infrastructure development, project supervision, environmental sustainability, and the protection of public safety.”

He further expressed the commission’s happiness with the Zamfara State Government, the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Executive Chairman of the Commission for their commitment and support towards staff development and capacity building.

Earlier, the chairman of Zam Builders Ltd, Alhaji Aminu Jangebe, had in his remarks urged the participants to actively engage in every session, ask questions, share practical experiences, and make the best use of the knowledge and expertise of the resource persons.

He further said that Zam Builders Ltd expects that the skills and knowledge acquired during the workshop to be applied diligently in respective Local Government Areas to improve service delivery and strengthen professionalism.
