The governorship candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in Taraba state, Aboki Stephen Bayonga, has urged youths, women and first-time voters to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the future of the state rests largely in the hands of its young population.

Bayonga made the call in Jalingo, the state capital yesterday, shortly after receiving the party’s flag as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming election.

Addressing party supporters and stakeholders, the DLA standard-bearer expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, stating that it possesses the necessary strength, structure and vision to form the next government in Taraba State in 2027.

He stressed the importance of civic responsibility and inclusive participation in the democratic process, noting that the active involvement of youths and women is critical to building a more accountable, transparent and development-driven administration.

According to him, the voter registration exercise presents an opportunity for citizens to shape the future of the state through democratic means.

Bayonga therefore urged all eligible residents who have not yet registered to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The future of Taraba State largely depends on the choices its people make at the ballot box. Young people, women and first-time voters must understand that their participation can determine the direction of governance and development in the state,” he said.

The DLA candidate described the PVC as a powerful democratic instrument capable of driving positive change and ensuring that elected leaders remain accountable to the people.

“Youths, women and first-time voters must not sit on the sidelines during this important process. Their voices matter, and their participation will help shape the future of Taraba State,” he added.

Bayonga further noted that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in electing credible leaders and engage constructively in governance through peaceful and lawful means.

He also called on political stakeholders, traditional rulers and civil society organisations to intensify voter education and awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging wider participation in the electoral process.

Expressing optimism about the state’s democratic future, the governorship hopeful said increased voter turnout and civic engagement would strengthen the credibility, inclusiveness and transparency of future elections in Taraba State.

He reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values and inclusive governance, urging residents to view voter registration not merely as a civic obligation but as a vital opportunity to influence the state’s development trajectory ahead of the 2027 polls.
