An elder statesman and member of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Deacon Egwu Chima, and a senatorial candidate of the party, Princess Ann Agom-Eze, have urged the people of Southeast geopolitical zone to vote massively for the party’s presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, in the February 16 presidential election. The APC stalwarts, who made the call in their separate remarks while addressing scores of supporters and political associates in Abakaliki, said voting Buhari was the best option to mainstream the marginalization of the zone.

Chima contended that Igbo largely contributed to their plight in the current Nigerian political structure, stressing that the only opportunity left for them to re-align with the centre lies on their support for the incumbent president. Chime, who is also a former Commissioner for Information in the state, stated that contrary to public perception, President Buhari has a history of love for the Igbo, beginning from his reign in the military era.

He added: “Buhari had demonstrated this before and the coming election gives our people the opportunity to reciprocate and align with the centre, because the numerous infrastructural projects in the zone are worthy testimonial that the president would do more for the people.”

On her part, Princess Agom-Eze, who was recently appointed as member, Women and Youth Presidential Campaign team of President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Council, told supporters across the state and beyond to keep faith with APC and do their best to ensure victory for the party’s candidates in the coming polls.

She said: “Through this appointment, we must be mindful of one thing and that is the fact that we must not be seen to fail. On my part, I will continue to do my best, but I implore you all to brace up for the challenges ahead as we must make everybody in Ebonyi to see the need to align to the political national grid.”

While calling on the supporters to redouble their efforts and ensure that Buhari and other APC candidates get a resounding victory in the state, the retired permanent secretary claimed that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no story to tell for wanting to compete with Buhari, except resorting to pedantic blackmail, which she said has no bearing on the welfare of the masses.

“Our eyes must be on the ball, time is not on our side and therefore I will use this opportunity to re-inaugurate all of you into various committees that must ensure that this anticipated success is achieved,” she declared.

Princess Agom-Eze, who is also the Co-coordinator, APC Aspirants Forum in the Southeast, told journalists that APC’s inability to conduct primaries for the state’s House of Assembly and federal House of Representatives aspirants in Ebonyi South might hurt the party.

She, therefore, called on the party’s leadership to persuade it’s gubernatorial candidate and other stakeholders to raise funds for the aspirants, who spent huge funds only to be disappointed due to ‘selection’ of candidates instead of electing popular candidates to fly the party’s flag.

While responding, one of the aspirants for Onicha East State Constituency, Prince Authur Ude-Umanta, thanked Agom-Eze for the motherly role she has continued to play for the party in the state, promising that they would do their best to ensure the party’s victory.
