The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State on Friday inaugurated a new executive committee, with party leaders declaring that the opposition platform has entered a phase of “rebirth” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the ceremony, party chieftain, Olabode George, said the PDP had emerged stronger from its November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, describing the gathering as a turning point in the party’s history.
According to him, the convention restored confidence in what he called “the greatest party in Africa,” founded in 1998, and signalled a new era of renewal and internal consolidation.
George alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress was attempting to destabilise the opposition ahead of 2027, including mounting pressure on PDP governors and lawmakers to defect. He, however, insisted that such moves would not weaken the party’s structure nationwide.
