Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State yesterday said efforts are on to ensure that in 2019 President Buhari gets 80 to 90 per cent of total votes cast during the presidential election in the state.

Masari also said similar effort would be made to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) gets the most votes in the state during the forthcoming general election. The governor spoke when the APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, formally received several notable members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that defected to APC in the state.

He said Katsina was ready to pay the deficit that might arise in some states that don’t vote en masse for Buhari. He said: “It would be out of place for any state to record paltry votes for the president” in the event he decides to contest.

Masari said: “Buhari is fighting several national ills on many fronts, including corruption, thuggery and terrorism” and that “no past Nigerian leader can boast to have delivered on these issues like the incumbent president.”He however called on Nigerians to protect the sanctity of the ballot box and work with the president to ensure the socio-economic growth of the country.

Oyegun, who was in the state with National Working Committee members of the party, said Buhari has performed to expectations and therefore deserved another term in office. He noted that with the defection of key members of the PDP to the APC, the PDP has become a shadow of its former self.Among the PDP members that were formally received into APC were, Senator Ibrahim Ida, former SMEDAN DG and Bature Masari, former Speaker.
