Mega Party’s candidate, Omoyeni alleges bribery, seeks cancellation of results

•It was not election, but a bazaar

Candidate of the Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN), Bisi Omoyeni has called for the cancellation of results of the election. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All the Progressives Congress (APC), for a true leader to emerge. Omoyeni, who made the call in an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Ikere-Ekiti, described the electoral process as a rape of democracy.

He said: “They have killed democracy in Nigeria. If democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people, what happened at the weekend shouldn’t have happened. Even though, we are practicing secret voting system, the election was open everywhere. What we saw was ‘see and buy, like a bazaar.’

“There are two ways of monetizing election, but the one adopted on Saturday was-show me who you voted and get your money. It’s unfortunate for Nigeria’s democracy.”According to him, whatever amount the PDP offered to induce voters was doubled by the APC.

“INEC and election observers were looking away as the voters’ inducement was ongoing. This is not good for Nigeria,” he said. He stressed that what people described as tension in the build-up to the poll, was nothing but a drama between the two parties, saying: “We have only seen Act 1, Scene 1, and it would continue, unless INEC cancels the entire election.

He said: “The election should be cancelled and properly organised, in accordance with the electoral law. Let the INEC declare that what happened was not good for Nigeria and Africa. If this is what we call democracy, then it is wrong.”On his next line of action, Omoyeni said: “When we get to the bridge, we would know how to cross it.”
