Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday emerged as the unopposed governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections after polling 345,375 votes in the party’s primary election.

The chairman of the primary election panel and returning officer, Vita Abba Okafor, announced the result at the APC State Secretariat in Asaba, declaring Oborevwori winner of the exercise.

Okafor said the governor was returned as the party’s candidate after satisfying the constitutional requirements and guidelines of the APC.

“Having satisfied the requirements of APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, he is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned as the party candidate of Delta State APC,” Okafor stated.

The primary election, conducted through the direct primary model adopted by the party, reportedly recorded participation of party members across the state’s wards and local government areas.

Speaking shortly after participating in the exercise at his Oha Ward in Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori commended the leadership of the APC for what he described as a transparent, peaceful and credible process.

The governor praised party members across the state for their unity, discipline and commitment to democratic principles, noting that the conduct of the primary reflected the strength of internal democracy within the party.

According to him, the direct primary system encouraged grassroots participation and should serve as a model for political engagement and party administration across the country.

Oborevwori also stressed the need for unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring that reconciliation mechanisms would be put in place to address grievances arising from the exercise and further strengthen cohesion within the party.

He maintained that peace, inclusiveness and internal harmony remained critical to building a stronger political structure capable of achieving its political objectives in the state.
