Constituents dismiss Mustapha’s exit, back AbdulRazaq, Danladi

A former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, has raised concerns over what she described as anti-party activities by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

According to Akindele, the development could threaten President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing an overwhelming victory during the 2027 general elections in the state.

The former Speaker, in a statement yesterday, accused some party members of courting and working for opposition candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections, a move she described as politically suicidal for the party and detrimental to the President’s re-election bid.

She said that unless urgent reconciliatory measures were implemented by the party’s national leadership, the current discord within the party and Ondo South Senatorial District could spread across the entire state before December.

Akindele, however, took a swipe at the state party’s reconciliation committee, stressing that it was composed of those who had allegedly been dispossessed, stating, “the offended people could not be expected to seek reconciliation from those who had offended them.”

In another development, APC stakeholders, especially the grassroots politicians, have dismissed the defection of the senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as no issue.

They, however, declared continued support for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the APC governorship candidate, Salihu Yakubu Danladi.

The politicians also passed a vote-of-confidence on the governor, urging him to sustain the pace of development by completing ongoing projects and expanding empowerment programmes for youths and women.

Ibrahim Sulyman Salah (councillor representing Gambari Ward 1 in Ilorin East Local Council), who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, said they were not driven by political considerations but by the visible impact of AbdulRazaq’s administration in the state.
