The National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, along Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday formally received former Minister of Education Malam Ibrahim Shekarau back to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decamp of Shekarau from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was rumoured few weeks ago shortly after the two-term governor of Kano State denounced his membership with the major opposition party in the country. Shekarau’s ages of political discord with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso further ignited just as the latter took over control of the party architecture in Kano.

Leading the top echelon of the party to Kano residence of Shekarau, Oshiomhole said the former governor’s return to APC is a matter of reunion rather than defection, having contributed immensely to the formation of the party.

According to Oshiomhole: “Mallam Shekarau is one of the founding fathers of the ruling All Progressive Congress and going by the records, nobody is more progressive than the former Minister whose records while in power, preceded that of others. I am most delighted to be at your residence to officially welcome you back to our great party, the APC, the party you assisted to form.

“We know that you would not have committed great amount of efforts in the formation of the APC right from the beginning if you didn’t believe in it. But due to some issues you had to leave. I have always said that, going forward, the real progressive would unite and the conservatives would move away. The conservatives have moved away and that offers us a new opportunity for the real progressives to reunite,” Oshiomhole hinted.

The APC National Chairman posited that APC has always placed high premium on her founding fathers while looking further to synergise all the key stakeholders with the party structure in the state. He added that the re-union would help advance the position of the party and that of the state and country at large.Responding Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau assured the APC Chairman that his return to APC was homecoming, claiming that the history and formation of APC can not be complete without his input.

According to Shekarau: “In view of all the recent developments in the state, I have no doubt history is about to repeat itself. All along, I have said it that, any history of APC without the name of Shekarau is never complete because, I have the singular honour of been the chief midwife of the APC,” Shekarau revealed.

The former Minister who however demanded sincerity of purpose as the party forges ahead, pledged that, regardless of whatever political party he and his colleagues found themselves, the mission remains the same. Ganduje said he had always maintained good relationship with the former Minister as a reliable friend and brother adding that he remained the happiest man to receive him back to APC.

He assured the party leadership that his administration is ready to work with Shekarau to achieve common goal and move the ruling party to greater height. The governor who equally welcome Shekarau back to APC posited that, “the same Hyena and Lion that drove the former Minister out of the APC, followed him to the PDP.  Today, our dreams have come true, a friend and a brother has returned to us. Together we would move the state forward for the development of our people,” Ganduje said.
