With the Osun governorship election only days away, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has intensified its campaign for its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, declaring that the poll offers voters an opportunity to rescue the state from what it described as “wastefulness, nepotism and brigandage.”
The party, in a statement issued at the weekend by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, accused the incumbent administration of poor governance, nepotism and what it described as “brigandage.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 15, 2026 for the Osun State governorship election, in which Oyebamiji is challenging the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term.
Oyo APC said its decision to mobilise support for Oyebamiji was informed by what it described as the need to restore effective leadership and accelerate development in the state.
“Regrettably, Osun and Oyo states fell into the wrong hands in 2022 and 2023 respectively, and the sad results of this development are evident in the key sectors of both states today,” the party said.
It alleged that Osun had suffered particularly from what it described as ineffective leadership, adding that the state had experienced divisions in different spheres of life.
The party also accused the state government of alleged corruption and lopsided distribution of appointments and infrastructure.
Oyo APC also criticised what it described as strained relationships between the governors of Osun and Oyo states and other governors in the South-West, attributing the situation to partisan differences.
However, the party said the forthcoming election offered Osun voters an opportunity to change the political leadership of the state.
It described Oyebamiji as “competent, intelligent and a unifier,” expressing confidence that he would deliver on his campaign promises if elected.
“But fortunately enough, the good people of Osun State have been offered another opportunity to get it right by electing a competent, intelligent and unifier as their new governor,” the party said.
“Dr. Bola Oyebamiji of the APC is the ideal man for the job and he will not disappoint if elected, as he is prepared to deliver on his electoral promises.”
The party also promised that an APC administration in Osun would address insecurity and improve accountability and development.
“Enough of sponsored violence, brigandage and crime surge in Osun State. APC government will restore peace, accountability in governance and accelerated development in Osun,” it added.
