The South West zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded the people of Ekiti State for what it described as a “landslide victory” for Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the just concluded governorship election, while declaring readiness to consolidate the party’s strength ahead of the Osun State poll.

In a statement issued in Ibadan and made available to The Guardian on Monday by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ayobami Afolabi, the party said the outcome of the Ekiti election reflected the confidence of the electorate in the APC-led administration at both state and federal levels.

The APC noted that Oyebanji’s re-election victory was not only decisive but also a strong endorsement of what it called “responsive and people-oriented governance,” urging other states in the region to emulate Ekiti’s political stability.

According to the party, the massive turnout and overwhelming support recorded across the 16 local government areas of the state demonstrated the people’s trust in the leadership of Governor Oyebanji and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We are grateful to the good people of Ekiti State for once again standing firmly with our great party. The result is a clear signal that Nigerians appreciate performance and continuity in governance,” the statement read.

The party, however, said the Ekiti victory must serve as a motivation rather than a point of celebration alone, stressing that attention has now shifted to the upcoming governorship election in Osun State.

It said the APC remains confident of replicating its electoral success across the South West, adding that the region must remain politically united in advancing progressive governance and development.

“In less than two months, Osun State will go to the polls. We believe it is another opportunity for the electorate to consolidate on progressive governance and return the state to the mainstream of development-oriented politics,” the party added.

The APC also called on its members and supporters across the zone to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections, urging them not to take electoral victories for granted.

It appealed to voters in the region to sustain their support for the party and President Tinubu in subsequent elections, promising improved dividends of democracy and broader development initiatives.

The statement added that the South West remained a critical base of progressive politics in Nigeria and must continue to lead in shaping the country’s democratic and developmental direction.
