Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on political parties and supporters to ensure peaceful, responsible and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor made the appeal on Wednesday to signal the commencement of the 2027 governorship and legislative election campaign nation wide.
Spokesperson of the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa made the appeal at a press conference said the Governor urged political actors to focus their campaigns on ideas, policies, achievements and programmes capable of improving the lives of residents, rather than resorting to insults, intimidation or violence.
According to Dawakin-Tofa, the governor also appealed to political parties and their supporters to avoid hate speech, provocation, character assassination, destruction of property and other actions capable of threatening the peace and security of the state.
“The people of Kano deserve a campaign where candidates explain what they intend to do differently and how they will improve the lives of citizens.
“We urge all political actors to avoid hate speech, provocation, character assassination, destruction of property and any action capable of disturbing the peace of the state, that have relatively peaceful.
“Our supporters are equally urged to remain disciplined, respect opposing views and refuse to be provoked into actions that could undermine peace and public order of the state”. He said.
Yusuf further called on media practitioners, bloggers, influencers and social media users to exercise responsibility by verifying information before publication and avoiding the spread of fake news, rumours, misinformation and inflammatory content.
He also urged security agencies to remain professional, impartial and vigilant throughout the campaign period, while calling on political parties and campaign organisations to cooperate with the agencies and comply with all lawful requirements.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to discharge its responsibilities and provide services to the people regardless of the political season. He said the government’s commitment to development and good governance remained unwavering under his leadership.
