Experts in the built environment have asked young surveyors to diversify the industry through technological innovations.

Leading the call at the 2021 yearly conference of Young Surveyors Network Lagos (YSN), a sub-group of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS), the keynote speaker, Mr. Oluwatosin Ligali, said young surveyors stand a chance to right many wrongs through innovations.

He said the surveying profession could be diversified through the use of technology.

Expounding on the theme: “Taking the lead from the space of followership,” Mr. Ligali stressed the need for elders in the profession to bring young minds on board.

He said: ” I want to encourage young surveyors of Nigeria to improve the profession with innovation.

“As young people, if we come up with innovation and package ourselves, we can market your talents. This is the best way to show that leadership is not about position but influencing from our zone.

Also, a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Surveyors, Hassan Elias, advised YSN to follow due process and learn from the experts in the industry to be guided in their aspirations of taking the lead.

He also cautioned the youths against cutting corners and desperation to become rich.

A panellist, Dr. Emmanuel Ayodele also cautioned the younger generation against assuming leadership positions without following due process.
