Surveyors urge partnership with vocational centres

To bolster professional practice in the country, the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Lagos chapter has called for partnership with technical and vocational centers in the state.

Chairman of the chapter, Adeleke Adeshina said such a partnership will encourage younger ones in the choice of studying surveying and thereby maintain its key role in the nation’s scheme of things. Adeshina spoke at the presentation of scientific and laboratory equipment to Agidingbi Senior Secondary School, Ikeja to boost science education and performance in the school.

The donation, Adeshina, said was part of the Institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the society and a way to give back to the community. According to him, the donation is billed to support the Lagos State Government’s initiative in providing quality education and learning facilities to Public Schools in the State.

The chairman stressed that the Scientific and Laboratory Equipment would aid learning and urged the school authority to make judicious use of donated educational items efficiently and effectively. He also encouraged the students to consider studying Surveying and other relevant science courses in institutions of higher learning as a profession.

In his response, Principal of the School, Kola Odesanmi, thanked the Surveyors for the gifts adding that it would be put to good use and would further elevate school and improve its standard.

He also urged other professional and corporate organizations to emulate the good gesture of the Institution, saying it was long-awaited in the public school. Expressing appreciation for the donation, the principal said it will further enhance teaching and learning in the school, which recently came tops at the national competition organized by the Mathematics Association of Nigeria in Lagos State.

The best physics student in the state and pupil in the school, Master Emeka Samuel, said the equipment came at the right time and will help in lifting the moral of students. Also Speaking, some teachers and students in the school appreciated the efforts of Institution saying the donation was an encouragement, especially for Science Students.
