The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission has held a 3-day residential retreat for board and management staff with a charge to staff to rededicate self to service delivery through excellence and strategic innovation.
Addressing participants at the retreat with the theme: “Rebranding the Teaching Service Commission through Excellence and Strategic Innovation” the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli Balogun noted that the retreat is a turning point for the Teaching Service Commission as it will serves as a reminder that teaching is a noble profession which shapes futures.
He said: “The theme of this retreat resonates deeply, rebranding requires introspection, innovation, and commitment to excellence. By rebranding, we will boost our credibility, showcase professionalism and build trust with stakeholders.”
He identified focus areas at the retreat to include an holistic teacher training, curriculum development, and stakeholder engagements.
He called on participants to learn from best practices, share experiences, and craft a success roadmap and show commitments to accountability, transparency, and results.
In her keynote address, Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Mopelola Victoria Peregrino, emphasised that the Commission must be known not only as an administrative body but as a center of professional excellence, a hub of innovation in teacher management, and a trusted partner in educational transformation.
She said that the Commission reputation will ultimately be shaped by the quality of decisions, the efficiency of systems, and the integrity with which staff discharge their responsibilities.
Peregrino called on participants to embrace innovative approaches, foster inclusive learning environment, leverage technology to augment education and support continuous professional growth.
She also urged participants to move from routine administration to strategic management, where ideas are welcomed, pilot initiatives are supported, and lessons are quickly scaled.
The opening ceremony of the three day retreat which was attended by the Six Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary from the six education Districts as well as Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mr. Hakeem Shittu was declared open by the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension and Public Service, Oladele Ajayi.
