Sistasista as Toyin Moore’s game changer
The new movie by two Nigerian born United Kingdom-based filmmakers, Toyin Moore and Labake Labake, Sistasista, is ready and the filmmakers said the Nigerian movie industry would never be the same after its release.
The movie, which was shot in London and Lagos, with state-of-the-art equipment, features the likes of Mofe Duncan, Labake Labake, Toyin Moore, Jide Kosoko, Belinda Efah, as well as other veterans. Already, the movie has been accepted abroad, as it has won multiple awards at African Voice, which is regarded as British number one platform that celebrates black talents in the arts.
Speaking from their base in London, Toyin and Labake expressed happiness with the outcome of the movie, which they described as an eternal story of love. According to Toyin, who was recently crowned as the best actor at this year’s ZAFA awards: “When doing love stories, we tend to tilt forward the Romeo and Juliet pathology, but we realised that and wanted the eternal story of love without sounding cliché.
“So, we decided to play on the love that exists between blood brothers and sisters, because we are speaking about how money can tear us apart and the foolishness of infatuation that makes us feel we are in love.”
On winning the ZAFA crest, she said: “It is God all the way; you cannot hide stars or even a lantern. We shine in God, and please, let’s gather and watch Sistasista come January.” Speaking on the prospect of the film when it opens in Nigeria, Labake, its co-producer, said: “These faces have been seen in movies over and over again, but we are bringing a love story from a different angle.
“We are not talking boyfriend or girlfriend, but sister’s love or blood love, betrayal and the rest of intrigues about relationships. This is not your regular love story; it is what will engross you.”Toyin assured moviegoers of fun and excitement, noting: “We are promising fun and excitement on this movie, more so, we brought ageless practitioners, like Jide Kosoko, Enyinna Nwigwe and blended them with the energy of the new generation of the likes of Duncan, Belinda and the rest. “Besides, there is the element of surprise, the miracle of love. Sistasista is magic on cinemas that all movie lovers will want to see again.”
