Chidiogo talks about her new film, life as female producer

Nollywood producer, Chidiogo Enwegbara, considers herself to be a fan and a follower of the Nigerian film industry. And she loves to tell stories that are entertaining and relatable. Some of the films she has produced are ‘Deceptions’ and ‘Date Night’

She agrees with Nollywood’s growth and says, “Nollywood keeps on growing. Thankfully, we have more and more options for funding, content buyers, film equipment and talents for behind and in front of the camera”.

Her current project, for which they just started production is titled “Greyish”. The film is about someone who gets an important information upon which he has to make a critical decision. He soon finds out that the deal is more than black and white. That actually, life comes in ‘shades of grey’.

As a producer, Chidiogo believes acting nude is a big deal, “In our part of the world, yes. But I think it should be at the actor’s discretion. Some don’t mind, while others will find it difficult to do so (giggles)”.

Aside from the basic producing functions, Chidiogo sees herself as a story editor. “I help to maintain the visions of the writer, director, and producer. To ensure that the essence of the story is not lost in translation”.

She chose to produce the current script because she likes the message. She says explains that not every issue is black and white, “sometimes we have to walk in another person’s shoes to see things from another point of view to empathize with them. We’ll discover that most people are basically trying to do their best”.

Nollywood has a lot of woman producers doing great in the film industry. What once looked like a male dominating industry now boasts of champions like Biodun Stephen, Mo Abudu, Bolanle Austen-Peters, Omoni Oboli, Emem Isong, Funke Akindele Bello, Mildred Okwo, Tope Oshin, Mo Abudu, Kemi Adetiba, Judith Audu and Oge Obasi. And according to Chidiogo being a woman producer hasn’t really been difficult. As a matter of fact, “Personally speaking it has been pretty good since I started” she says.

Greyish to be directed by superstar director, Saheed Apanpa of APM studios.
