The founder/proprietor of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Justices Bola Ajibola (rtd), has showered encomiums on an alumnus, Adeola Yusuf, who won the 2016 African Investigative Conference (AIJC) Bursary Award in South Africa.

Adeola Yusuf is a 2012/2013 graduate of mass communication from Crescent University, Abeokuta.

Receiving the news from Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Kola Adesina, Ajibola expressed deep satisfaction with the performance on behalf of the management of the institution and congratulated Yusuf who had won other awards in journalism.

The VC, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, said, “our products are now standing shoulder to shoulder with the best brains in the world, adding that this had been the trend in the recent history of the school’s performance.”

Yusuf joined other investigative journalists from Africa at the Wits University, Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 2016 edition of AIJC, the biggest gathering of investigative journalists, Journalism students and professionals in Africa.

He bagged the award with the story published in the New Telegraph on Saturday, 24th June, 2016, entitled, “Mega Crude Oil Theft: How $50bn Nigeria’s Stolen Crude Oil Found Its Way To Refineries in Europe, US.”

Yusuf has won other international awards, honours and recognition in journalism, including the Thomson Reuters Foundation Scheme on Illicit Finance Reporting in Africa, 2016. He equally won the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) Prize for Energy Reporter of The Year, 2015. He is the first and only winner of most consistent energy reporter award by the highest body of petroleum experts in Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE).
