Prominent Disc Jockey, Fagbe John Oluwafemi aka Dj Kaycee has said that DJs in Nigeria are part of the unsung heroes evolving the Afrobeats scene and helping its global explosion.

Dj Kaycee, who emerged as the 2022 Laoudit Music Awards Dj of the year, told Weekend Beats that DJs deserve more reception to help them continue their genre-bending exploits which has seen likes of Ckay, Rema, Libianca, among others soar across entertainment platforms like TikTok and Instagram, among others.

“We see the trend where artistes get all the recognition when they blow up on TikTok and other platforms; but the fact remains that most of us (DJs) are responsible for this sonic shift. We should be on the same level as artists in the industry.”

He also said that, despite the trend, he remains motivated by his passion for the craft.

“What keeps me going is the passion I have for music and the kind of reception I get any time I am performing.”

Dj Kaycee, who hails from Ondo State, disclosed how he kick started his career, saying, “I love music, and being a DJ is like the easiest way for me to make people happy by playing their favorite songs. I have always loved all genres of music right from childhood, I started professionally in 2004, so it’s about 19 years now.”

Speaking on his vision for his craft, he said, “Presently I’m doing club tours across cities in the United States and the United Kingdom. I’m also working on my first mixtape for this year. It will be available on all digital platforms in a couple of weeks.”
