Following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) arrest of fast-rising musicians, Afeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley) in connection with alleged case of internet fraud and money laundering, music superstar and Davido Music World (DMW) boss, David Adeleke, who is well known as Davido, has called for his release.

The Omo Baba Olowo crooner assured that the release of singer is guaranteed. “#MARLIAN!! Free bro!!! Nothing spoil!! I got u!!!” Davido wrote on his twitter page with picture of Marley

The Guardian gathered the Issa Goal crooner, was arrested with his friend, Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael (aka Zlatan Ibile), Tiamiu Abdulrahman Kayode, Adewunmi Adeyanju Moses and Abubakar Musa. Their arrest followed an early morning raid carried yesterday at their residence on 9, Gbangbola Street, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.

Confirming the arrest, acting EFCC spokesperson, Tony Orilade said, “Yes, he is with us. He’s not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him). They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud — Internet-related cases and all of that.

“The Commission found and recovered a number of items, including laptops. They have so far volunteered useful information about their involvement in the alleged criminal activities, even as investigations continue,” Orilade added.

While some Nigerians in support of Yahoo Yahoo, others like comedian Alibaba have condemned the trend, which is rampant among youngsters.

Earlier in the week, renowned rapper, Ruggedman in a video that went viral called out Marley for promoting Internet fraud in his latest music offering, Ami I A Yahoo Boy. Naira MarAccording to the Opomulero Hip-Hop, promotion of such cyber crimes impact negatively on Nigerians abroad.

Writing on his Instagram page, Alibaba said, “I am not afraid of being unfollowed. The people I want to associate with are people who either lift me up or challenge me to be better. If you are a yahoo boy or their supporter, you will do well to avoid me. You are not my benefactor. And you as for you yahoo followers, you don’t count.”

Marley had in an Instagram live video last week, said that Internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) help Nigeria’s economy. He added that the political class had looted the country and thus the economy would have collapsed if not for ‘Yahoo Boys’ who make money go round in the country.

“All you guys, all the money in your pockets, all the money you spend, you think it’s the government that is making the money go round? You better sit down and pray for yahoo boys. If them stop yahoo, the money would not pass you guys.

“The money will go like this, from Obasanjo to Tinubu, from Tinubu to Mr Japa, you think me I need Yahoo? I make money from my music,” he stated.
