Notable actor and former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Ejike Asiegbu and actress and current Public Relations Officer of the AGN Monalisa Coker have been elected into the Board of the Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS). The AVRS is Nigeria’s sole collective management organisation for audio-visual works.

Ejike and Coker were elected at the 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the AVRS held on Thursday at the Lagos Airport Hotel. The AGM is coming exactly a year after the last AGM, which held virtually on November 5, 2020. A major highlight of the meeting was the dissolution and reconstitution of the AVRS Management Board in line with the amended memorandum and article of association. The amended document reduced the number of members on the board from 15 to 12.

Another highlight of the AGM was the conduct of election to fill the 12 new vacant positions on the Board. The AVRS memorandum and article of association provides for the election of three directors for each of the four category of membership. After a peaceful election conducted by Lagos top legal firm, Creative Legal and supervised by its Principal Partner Mr. Justin Ige, notable actor Ejike Asiegbu, Monalisa Coker, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Jide Kosoko, Yemi Solade, Sanni Muazu, Nobert Ajaegbu, Ahmed Sarari, Olurotimi Aina Kushoro, Tunji Ojetola, Iyen Obaseki-Omoruyi and Peddie Okao were elected to the AVRS Board.

An elated Asiegbu thanked all those who voted at the AGM for the confidence reposed in his ability to represent them on the Board.

“We need the support of all to get AVRS working for our own good,” Asiegbu said.

Also speaking, Mahmood Ali-Balogun thanked AVRS members for the peaceful conduct of the AGM and the election. The filmmaker called on members not to relent on their support for the AVRS noting that their continued support is the reason the AVRS has come this far in seven years.

Acting General Manager of the AVRS Olubukola Adeyemi hinted that the swearing in of the newly elected Board members and the election of a chairman from amongst the board members would hold at the next meeting of the society.
