Although it was an award night for artistic and technical merit for the global film industry, however, the thrill, for many with Oscars, was the opportunity to see actors deliver their very best fashion performances on the red carpet.

Although it was an award night for artistic and technical merit for the global film industry, however, the thrill, for many with Oscars, was the opportunity to see actors deliver their very best fashion performances on the red carpet. Many of the stars chose designs that clashed the traditional with the contemporary, resulting in glitzy elegance.

Interestingly, white proved to be the breakout colour for the Sunday evening event as most of the female celebrities showed up in flowing outfits that looked bridal while the men showed up in compelling attractive tuxedos designed by some of the best fashion designers in the world.

This explains why Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, who was also one of the nominees for the 95th Oscars Awards got the world to marvel at her elaborate and beautiful white hooded dress designed in a sculptural robe by a Ukrainian brand, Lever Couture’s AW22, Leleka Couture collection at the event held on March 12, 2023 in the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The avant-garde gown featured pleated structural details that ebbed and flowed from her shoulders, around her waist, and even to the top of her head, wrapping around her cheeks, making her look enormously beautiful.

The Grammy award-winning singer, who rose to prominence after featuring on Wizkid’s 2020 single, Essence, was the only Nigerian who made it to the 2023 Oscars as she was nominated for the Best Original Song for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever track “Lift Me Up”, hence the necessity to gorgeously represent Nigeria in unparalleled style from head to toe at the awards. She took everyone’s breath away on Sunday night with not just her white gown but sparkling and dangling earrings, rings and matching bracelets for some major bling. Even her makeup perfectly revealed her attractive face.

The night also featured other colourful outfits as Cate Blanchett’s draped Louis Vuitton number, with a splash of aqua blue up top, was sleek and pared back. Hong Chau opted for a soft pink Prada column gown, complete with a black sequined train. Actor Kerry Condon brought a ray of sunshine with her strapless yellow Versace gown.

The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are for artistic and technical merit for the global film industry. They are regarded by many as the most prestigious and significant global awards in the entertainment industry given yearly by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the United States in recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements of primarily American films, as assessed by the Academy’s voting membership.

Interestingly, the genre-defying film, Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert took home the 2023 Oscars for best picture and best director, from 11 total nominations. Other various category winners were awarded a copy of a golden statuette as a trophy, officially called the “Academy Award of Merit”, although more commonly referred to by its nickname, the “Oscar.” The statuette, depicting a knight rendered in the Art Deco style, was originally sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley from a design sketch by art director Cedric Gibbons.
