Cutting the glam red look this valentine

Related

Valentine’s day is just five days away, and there is no better way to celebrate the lovers’ day than by looking good and sparkling in red. This is Valentine’s colour anyway! Remember the song, ‘Lady In Red’ by Chris De Burgh? This lovely song comes to mind when red is mentioned. Whether you’re spending the day (or night) celebrating with the love of your life, hanging out with friends or you just want to look trendy, you can count on a well-designed red dress to make all the difference. And you end up looking simply chic.

Morenikeji Onigbanjo, founder/creative director of Ahdookeh Fashion in Lagos said: “St Valentine’s Day is an annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship and admiration. If you look back at the game played by the French Queen, the colour red seems to be a recurring detail, red roses and red lip stains.

“But the question still stands, why is red so significant on Valentine’s Day? For so long, the colour red was said to represent the red blood of the beating heart. The heart is the ultimate symbol of love. This is why you should choose a red dress for Valentine’s Day.

“A red dress makes you beautiful, untouchable, prettier and unforgettable. A red dress is also associated with evoking feelings of passion, desire and love. It is known to make our blood pressure rise, as well as our heart and rate of respiration. Red comes in a variety of shades. I suggest you choose the one that works with your skin tone. Also, find the cut that complements or flatters your body shape and makes you look confident.

“For a more classic look, opt to either show more leg or more shoulder. One or the other keeps you on the classic side.

Don’t be afraid to match your lipstick with it. I love a red lip with a red statement piece. This ties in the colour for your entire outfit. You can slightly smoke your eyes for an evening look, or keep it super creamy for a more daytime appropriate look.

“Keep accessories simple. When looking for shoes to wear with a red dress, go for those in matching shade of red or neutral colour like black or white. I go with a black strappy heel and a fun statement earring. Another great way to look chic is to wear gold or silver shoes with red dress. Silver shoes are best matched with metallic jewellery in the same shade along with a red dress. If you are not comfortable in high heels, you can opt for sandals or flat pumps. White pearl necklace also looks nice with a red dress. Go paint the town red this Valentine.”
