Dep gov counsels parents on responsible parenting

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat has urged parents to prioritise the welfare of their children, as many of the hoodlums roaming the streets are products of parents‘ failure to properly guide their children in the early stage of lives.

Speaking at the 2026 Annual Zonal Ramadan Lecture 1447AH organised by the Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Lagos Zone, the deputy governor lamented that many parents, particularly the fathers are abandoning their duties to their wives and children, noting that parents’ role in shaping the lives of children cannot be overemphasised.

Hamzat noted that the country’s most pressing issues, particularly insecurity, can be addressed by ensuring parents properly guide and educate their children. He pointed out that many responsible for terrorising the nation were let down by parents who failed in their duties.
