Joke Silva

Veteran actress Joke Silva has been appointed Head Judge for 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, slated for May 9, 2026. Silva brings decades of industry expertise to the prestigious role. The event will also feature pre-award activities such as icons night and cultural day in the lead-up to the ceremony.
‎ ‎
This year’s edition introduces a strong focus on craftsmanship, spotlighting the writers, directors, editors, designers, and technical professionals whose work forms the backbone of African cinema. The initiative underscores a broader commitment to recognising the creative forces working behind the scenes.
‎ ‎
The awards are sponsored by Don Julio, whose involvement aligns with its “por amor” philosophy, celebrating passion, dedication, and artistry. The partnership builds on recent engagements like The Don’s Table, an event hosted by the brand to honour Nollywood talents committed to excellence in storytelling.
‎ ‎
As the official spirits partner, Don Julio will bring a blend of luxury and cultural storytelling to the AMVCA experience, featuring curated brand moments, signature toasts, and immersive activations designed to enhance the celebration.

The Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, Atinuke Babatunde, noted that the AMVCAs continue to celebrate African storytelling in its full richness. She highlighted how stories from cities like Lagos, Nairobi, Dakar, and Johannesburg reflect the continent’s identity and global connections, adding that the partnership represents a shared vision of excellence.

‎This marks the first time a luxury spirits brand has served as headline sponsor of the AMVCA, with additional support from brands like Johnnie Walker and Singleton. According to Segun Ogunleye, Head of Marketing for Africa Partner Markets at Diageo, the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to celebrating cultural pride, craftsmanship, and premium experiences.
‎ ‎
The 12th edition will feature 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided awards, 11 audience-voted categories, and three special honours for Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer recognition. Nominees are set to be announced on March 29, 2026, during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels hosted by actor Chiemezie Imo.
