Players featuring in the ninth Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Tournament were physically examined and accredited, yesterday, at the Ikeja Golf Club ahead of the tournament, which tees off this weekend.

Head of the Technical Committee for 4E Sports, Jide Bolaji, said the accreditation was held from 11:00 a.m. at the Ikeja Golf Club.

Bolaji noted that the screening, however, was earlier held online, adding that the players were asked to physically present themselves with all relevant documents to ascertain their true identity and confirm their credentials.

The age limit for the 2022 event has been brought forward to 06-16 as against the previous age of 06 to 17.

The organisers disclosed that about 140 junior golfers are expected to participate in the tournament, adding that over 80 players had been registered before the physical examination.

Of the 140 players, 20 slots are reserved for players from the National Order of Merit (NOM), which was under compilation as of yesterday, just as 46 children will be registered for clinic.

The ceremonial tee-off holds this morning (8:00 a.m.), while the main action for day one runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Day two action starts by 11:00 a.m. and ends by 3:00 p.m., with the presentation of prizes and awards wrapping up the championship at 4:00 p.m.

The Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Tournament is a yearly event that celebrates the birthday of the sponsor, Awa Ibraheem and also appreciates his contributions to the development of golf in Nigeria.
