Hospitality establishments must prioritise security, safety – VCP Hotelier

All over the world, security is key to the hospitality sector. This is why Victoria Crown Plaza (VCP) Hotel is setting the pace in ensuring the safety of its guests and staff. “Security is the top priority for any establishment in the hospitality business as guests expect not only comfort but also an environment where their safety is guaranteed,” the Chief Executive Officer of VCP, Emeka Ofor said during a briefing recently in Lagos.

Ofor noted that security at VCP goes beyond technology, emphasising the importance of staff training. He explained that team members are trained to maintain high standards of vigilance and prevent losses, ensuring that security is proactive rather than reactive.

He revealed that the hotel’s security operations are managed through a partnership with a reputable firm that provides round-the-clock surveillance and protection. He noted that this external team works seamlessly with the hotel’s internal security staff, creating a strong and reliable network of protection.

“In addition to its internal measures, the hotel benefits from its strategic location in the central business district. Being surrounded by banks, oil firms, and other high-security establishments has created a collective security ecosystem,” Ofor noted. He also stated that the various security teams in the area, including those of neighbouring businesses, collaborate to respond to threats and incidents.

Highlighting the design of the hotel, Ofor pointed out that VCP’s low fences and open structure promote transparency and ease of monitoring. He explained that the layout deters potential threats and ensures that activities around the premises are visible. “Internally, the hotel is equipped with an extensive network of surveillance cameras, covering all public areas. A team of security personnel monitors these cameras in real time, with footage stored for months to enable playback when needed.” He added that guests are provided with in-room safety deposit boxes to secure their valuables, further enhancing their sense of safety. “VCP’s commitment to security is not only about meeting the expectations of its guests but also about exceeding them, creating a benchmark for the hospitality industry.”

In addition to safety measures, Ofor described how the hotel prioritises creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for guests. He said: “VCP remains dedicated to setting standards that ensure every guest enjoys a luxurious and worry-free stay by providing a “home away from home” experience, offering stable internet, connectivity and a variety of cuisines to meet the diverse needs of its clientele.”
