After years of fans seeking a collaboration, Afrobeats sensation, Adekunle Kosoko, well known as Adekunle Gold, has finally teamed up with rap powerhouse and former label boss, Olamide Adedeji, known professionally as Olamide, in a new single titled Formation and released on Thursday, April 9.

The song, which is already dominating streaming conversations marks a significant musical moment, bringing together two distinct sounds and fan bases in a partnership that highlights the evolving creativity within Nigeria’s music industry. It also marks a full-circle moment for AG, who first broke out under Olamide’s YBNL label.

While Adekunle Gold’s career was launched under Olamide’s YBNL Nation imprint in 2015, the two have never appeared on a song together, a fact that has been a point of curiosity for fans for nearly a decade.

The relationship between the duo predates AG’s singing career. Before finding fame with his debut hit, Sade, the Lagos Island prince was famously the “King of Photoshop,” served as YBNL’s official graphic designer, and created the iconic record’s label logo that is still in use today.

For years, both artistes have dominated the charts in their respective lanes — Adekunle Gold with his refined blend of Afrobeats, highlife, and contemporary pop, and Olamide with his street-rooted rap and hit-making consistency.
