It’s no news that the much awaited reality TV show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10 dubbed 10/10 is live on the screen. The news, however, is that “Big Brother House of Tears” is a fitting description for the current state of the show, where emotions are running high and tears are flowing freely.
Barely two days after the housemates settled into the house, housemates have been emotional wrecks, breaking down in tears over various issues, from personal struggles to heated arguments. This, some viewers say are tactics by the housemates. Some housemates have been accused of adopting Ilebaye Precious Odiniya also known as Baye or Gen-Z Baddie, the Season 9 winner’s pity tactics.
Two housemates, Denari and Danboskid sparked controversy, claiming that some of their fellow housemates’ fights and tears are staged for sympathy and attention. Specifically, they have accused Mensan and Kaybobo of faking their emotions to gain favor with the other housemates. Denari even went as far as to plan a retaliatory performance with Danboskid, complete with their dramatic flare-up.
Koyinsola Samod Sanusi (Koyin) opened the floor on the first day after an argument with Kayode Oladele (Kaybobo), showing vulnerability and winning over viewers’ sympathy, as a fan jumped to the defense of the 21-year-old, saying, “You can’t even say we are supporting Koyin because of pity. Right from the first day, he started gaining fans; also he is talented and has achieved a lot. He has potential and he has to win. He is not boring.”
Kaybobo apologised to Koyin with tears. Tension escalated in the house after a fierce confrontation that nearly turned physical between him and James Mensan–Awaji (Mensan). The altercation began when Mensan hurled an insult at Kaybobo, prompting an angry response.
Kaybobo accused Mensan of deliberately provoking conflict to gain attention and declared that he had no chance of winning the show. Visibly infuriated, Mensan fired back with a bombardment of insults and challenged Kaybobo to step outside to settle their differences. He also made several threatening and derogatory remarks including calling him a bully, revealing painful memories from the latter’s past before other housemates stepped in to ease the tension.
Next was Nicole Simon-Ogan (Gigi Jasmine), a professional Disc Jockey (DJ) and event promoter from Akwa Ibom State. Her uncontrollably sobbing over personal struggles during an emotional diary session with Big Brother attests to this.
As promised during her short interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the show host, Ekwe Tracy Uchenna (Tracy), a chemical engineer by training, showcased her realness when she broke down in tears, as she expressed feelings of loneliness and neglect.
Unable to contain her tears, 23 years old Dede Ashiogwu (Dede) from Delta State confessed to missing her boyfriend outside the house, while the confident, assertive fashion designer and actress from Oyo State, Opeyemi Ayanwale (Imisi) tears up sharing her struggles with Biggie as she is overwhelmed by fellow housemates’ dressings and styles.
The show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, during the premiere teased some twists, including Sundays being dedicated to Head of House games and Mondays featuring the Head of House challenger. With new twists expected, season 10 will undoubtedly a must-watch, as it delivers unprecedented entertainment with higher stakes than ever before.
